Lantern Foods is a small but
active family business based in north-east Hampshire, dedicated to
providing ethical and environmentally-friendly products to customers in
Hampshire via our retail store, local markets and other venues.
We see ourselves very much as part of the wider community, helping
people to make informed choices about their diet and ultimately their
well-being. Our aim, therefore, is to provide food that is organic and
local or FairTrade wherever possible.
Our extensive range over more than 1300 product lines includes:
· Groceries
· Fruit and vegetables
· Chilled and frozen goods
· Bread
· Environmentally friendly household goods
· Natural toiletries
· Natural remedies
· Supplements
· Baby products
· Gluten free, dairy free, sugar free products
Specialising in the provision of foods for those on restricted diets, we
will do our utmost to support our customers’ needs. We will undertake
special orders wherever feasible and are constantly seeking new lines.
About
us
We are currently a team of two, John and Mary-Anne Barber!
We set up Lantern Foods in the autumn of 2005, disillusioned at the
selection of organic and natural products generally available in the
local area and dismayed at the cost of those we could find.
Consequently, having struggled to easily find the goods we ourselves
wished to buy, we endeavour to bring customers a range of quality
organic, fair trade and ethical products at a fair price. Our
over-riding principle is that we are here to give the customer what he
or she wants, not what we decide to stock.
Initially working from home, at first we operated through the medium of
local markets. From these humble beginnings, we have expanded into our
current premises and developed into a thriving business responding to
the needs and wishes of our customers. We can still be found at
occasional outside venues and these are posted on the web site.
We passionately believe in the importance of quality food so all the
products we stock are carefully evaluated for both quality and value for
money and we continually review product lines to ensure we have the best
currently available to meet the needs of our discerning public. Where we
source products that are not certified organic, we expect that these are
produced along broadly organic principles with regard to the
environment. We prefer to purchase from small, independent and family
firms e.g. Lyde Green Farm milk, Tunworth cheese, Tyrrells chips and
Chegworth Valley juices.
Also, while we ourselves are not committed vegetarians or vegans, we
respect those who have chosen this route and do not sell meat or fish (a
small quantity of eggs and dairy products is sold).
When it comes to toiletries and household goods, we again firmly believe
in the avoidance of substances harmful to humans and the environment.
Hence all products are as natural as possible.
Our customers all tell us that they enjoy a pleasant shopping experience
in a light, bright environment. Add to this that we are child-friendly
or, for our senior customers in-store, are happy to sell just one carrot
if that is all they need, then there are many benefits to shopping at
Lantern Foods!
